For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?

I’ve been working in the fitness industry for over a decade. I originally got into fitness through dance and soccer and was health minded at a very young age. Growing up, we had a gym in our house, and every day, I would watch my dad, tired or not, go downstairs after a long day at work and workout. He worked as a Master of Holistic Medicine which helped build my appreciation and curiosity for alternative medicine and sports supplementation. I am the owner of Drench Fit, which is a holistic health and wellness boutique studio. I also am a certified Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Post Injury Rehabilitation Specialist, Advanced Sports Nutrition coach, Wellness coach, I recently got certified for Eating Disorder prevention and recovery, and of course I’m a sponsored Magnum Athlete!

What were your biggest challenges when you first started training?

When I moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg, I became very serious about training. During that time my mom was suddenly stricken with cancer, and working out was the biggest outlet for me. At the time, I didn’t know anyone, I was in University, my mom was sick, and I was devastated. Every day I would push myself physically to prove to myself, and my mom, that you could dig deep for strength. Going to the gym gave me a sense of purpose, and the commitment that I made to myself and my health made me stronger both physically and mentally which enabled me to be there for my family when they needed me the most.

What do you love most about being a new mom, and how did you get back your pre pregnancy weight?

What I love the most about being a new mom is that I have a new little best friend for life! I never thought I could love something so much as I love my baby. She is the most wonderful addition to my life. During my pregnancy I stayed very active until six months prior to her birth by teaching classes and running; then I tested positive for fetal fibronectin which is a sign of preterm labour. I was put on bed rest; my bed rest consisted of walking inclines and light weights. But thankfully, I train a large population of the Richmond Labour and Delivery Ward, including two of British Columbia’s best Obstetricians, so I was checked up on daily, and I made sure not to do anything that put my baby at risk! I run a very successful weight loss challenge with my clients, so in June I signed myself up for my “Jacked up June” program. As I led 30 others to their goal weight, I worked right alongside them to achieve my own goals! By using a proper nutrition program, and training hard, despite having a c section, I was able to bounce back to my pre pregnancy weight pretty quickly.

How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And what do you love most about the company?

I became involved with Magnum about 2 ½ years ago, and I remember when Magnum’s President, Markus Kaulius and I had our first phone conversation. I thought to myself that Markus was the type of person I wanted to be aligned with. During my phone conversation with Markus’s I sensed his knowledge, passion, and most of all felt he had a real sense of integrity. Markus’s energy is contagious and both his morals and work ethic are rare. I love Magnum’s products, I love what is put into Magnum’s products, and most importantly, I love what I get out of using Magnum’s products! Before I signed on with Magnum, I sent all of their product information to my dad. My dad is one of the smartest and well educated men in the field, and I care very much about his opinion. My dad was SO impressed with Magnum’s products, so naturally I just knew the company was the real deal! (Laughs)

What is your favorite Magnum product and why?

My favourite Magnum product is Primer. I include Primer in all of my weight loss challenges with my clients. I feel Primer helps the body reach its best potential by building the body up on a cellular level. When the body is balanced, the body responds to nutrition and training faster. My personal favourite Magnum product is Mimic. I feel Mimic is a multifaceted supplement that can be used during training or just with food.

Brenley’s Current Favourite Magnum Stack:

  • Mimic
  • Heat
  • Rocket science

What’s your favorite exercise and why?

I love training back and shoulders. My go to exercise is the lat pulldown using a straight cable. I just love having a strong back; it has helped lay the foundation for my pull ups!

What do you love most about helping other’s with their transformations, and what are some of your biggest challenges when you take on a new client?

I love helping people acheive what they once thought was the ‘impossible’. I also love being there along the way, and working through obstacles with each and every client. Life will always present you with hurdles, but if you have a good coach you can learn how to jump over the hurdles rather than run into them. I tend to build the best relationships with my clients; it’s a true partnership. I think all of my best friends were first my clients! (Laughs) When it comes to nutrition and training, I work VERY differently than most people. So, I find my biggest challenge is getting people to trust the process. I feel a body is better in balance and balance takes work. It is definitely not the fastest route; however it is the longest lasting route in my opinion!

What does your current diet look like?

I currently eat when I can because having a little baby at home my hands are often tied. However, I aim for my regular 5 meals a day.

Brenley’s Daily Diet:

  • Meal 1: ½ cup Oats, 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter, 1 tablespoon Hemp Seeds, 1 tablespoon Cod Liver Oil and 1 Scoop Quattro Vanilla
  • Meal 2: Basa or Salmon, 20 Almonds and Cauliflower or Broccoli
  • Meal 3: 5 ounces Chicken and Nupasta
  • Meal 4: 1 Scoop Quattro Vanilla Shake, 1/4 cup Blueberries and 1 tablespoon Almond Butter
  • Meal 5: (Tuna Salad) 1 can Tuna, Tomatoes, Peppers, Olives and Mixed Greens

Do you prep your meals and if so how long does it take you?

The last few months the manager of Drench Fit, Sylvea and I have been creating meal plans and doing meal prep for our clients; it’s been working out so well that I use the same concept for my own meals. When l prep my clients meals, I usually prep my meals for both my husband and myself. Prepping the meals ahead of time saves me so much time during the week, and I love cooking delicious, healthy meals!

What’s the one food you couldn’t live without? And how do you handle cravings?

Movie theatre popcorn; terrible, I know! (Laughs) I love it, and I can’t live without it! If I crave it, I usually get it; I am known to go into the theatre just for the popcorn and leave! (Laughs) I don’t believe in restricting myself if I really want something; it’s okay to have a little, and satisfy your craving.

What’s something that not many people know about you?

One thing many people may not know is I had the privilege to train the Boss himself, Markus Kaulius. Training Markus was an amazing experience not only because he is a ‘super’ human, but because he was always very humble during our training process. Our sessions started with a postural assessment, and injury rehabilitation. I truly believe people are only as strong as their weakest link, and despite his phenomenal body and knowledge on fitness and exercise, he listened and followed my advice. Some days he was pretty tired, but Markus really dug down deep and had amazing energy for every session! During our time together Markus was able to build a lot of muscle; he improved his form and rebalanced his body. Markus was such a pleasure to work with, and every day I see him in his photos and videos I am so proud of him! Markus is truly an inspiration, and I myself am humbled that I was able to share my knowledge with him.

What do you do to relax when you’re not working out?

I honestly don’t relax. I find my greatest peace when I am busy. I love working, dancing, I love doing outdoor activities with my family; it’s rare you get my sitting down! (Laughs)
