For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?

I’ve always been a very competitive person, and I invest myself 110% into everything I do. I grew up on the Olympic Wrestling team in High School, and when I reached University I was looking for something to replace the ‘thrill’ of competing, that’s when I discovered the world of Fitness. At the time, I was convinced all I had to do was workout a couple of times a week and voila! (Laughs) I decided to hire a personal trainer to learn my way around the gym and be my very best like a pro. Little did I know that I was eating very poorly, so I eventually gave in, and I hired a nutritional coach. For several years, I competed as a physique competitor, and I loved it; it made me push myself mentally and physically to a new level that I never thought was possible! But I felt that I was still missing that competitive ‘edge’ and I really missed the satisfaction of performing outside of my comfort zone. I ended up discovering Crossfit, and it was a perfect match for my personality. Crossfit allows me to break outside of my comfort zone and push beyond my limits each and every day!

What were your biggest challenges when you first started training?

For me personally, educating myself was by far the biggest challenge; I had no clue how hard it would be until I got started. Mentally I had to take a step back and trust the process. Physically, I had never imagined spending up to 3 hours a day training in a gym, while working a full time job. Organization has been the key; I learned that one pretty quickly. (Laughs)

Do you incorporate stretching or foam rolling into your routine?

Along the way, I have learned that working on my mobility is a crucial part to my overall success and health. Injuries can happen, but I will do everything in my power to avoid them. I like to incorporate a half hour of warm ups prior to my workouts. I do mobilization warm ups using different band movements, and I roll out my muscles to slowly get the blood flowing which helps open up my muscles and joints. I also started practicing yoga regularly; this helps with my overall performance, recovery, sleep and stress levels.

How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And what do you love most about the company?

I was ALWAYS a fan of Magnum’s products, and had incorporated their supplements into my regimen even before I could have ever imagined that I would be part of such an amazing team. With putting in a lot of hard work and with the help of social media, I was lucky enough to catch Magnum’s attention; it just goes to prove that with hard work anything is achievable!

What Magnum products are you currently using?

Magnum Stack

Morning:

  • Greens
  • Acid (15 minutes prior to my meals)

Pre Workout:

  • Opus or Limitless
  • Carne Diem

Intra Workout:

  • Hi-5

Post Workout:

  • Quattro

Before Bed:

  • G-Spring

G-Spring is my favorite!

What does your current training look like, and what is your training philosophy?

Because I do Crossfit, my training routine is a little different. I spend about 2 to 3 hours in the gym a day, and my training routine is usually divided up.

Training Split:

  • Warm up
  • Strength
  • Workout 1
  • Workout 2
  • Accessory Gymnastic Work

I don’t target a specific muscle group every day because I usually will hit every muscle group during a workout. I take two rest days a week, Thursdays and Sundays.

What’s your favorite exercise for arms and why?

Anything that has to do with training shoulders is my favorite. Side lateral raises, and shoulder presses would have to be my ultimate favorites. Side lateral raises and shoulder presses have always been my strongest; they also help with my shoulder stability which has always been a weakness for me.

What is your secret to your incredible arm development?

If I had to give you one secret it would be the following, bicep curls and triceps extensions are not the only way to develop good arms. Don’t be shy about incorporating other movements such as push-ups, burpees or chin ups. And instead of simply resting between sets, try skipping rope; it will give your shoulders a burn, trust me! (Laughs)

Do you have a favorite pair of shoes to train in and a separate pair for squatting?

For anything that has to do with running around, moving fast and efficiently The Nike Metcons are my All Time favorite, but my ‘babies’ are definitely my Olympic weightlifting shoes. (Laughs) And for anything that involves squatting, I always go with my Nike Romaleos.

What does your current diet look like?

I like to have a lot of variety in my diet, but my typical day will look something like this:

Daily Diet:

  • Breakfast: 2 Whole Eggs, 2 Egg Whites, 2 Slice Bacon and Greens Shake
  • Snack 1: 0% Fat Greek Yogurt and 1 Handful Almonds
  • Meal 2: 4 ounces Lean Meat, ½ cup Sweet Potatoes or Rice and 1 cup Greens
  • Snack 2: 2 ½ ounces Fat Free Lactose Free Cheese and 1 piece Fruit
  • Meal 3: 4 ounces Lean Meat, ½ cup Sweet Potatoes or Rice and 1 cup Greens
  • Post Workout: Magnum Quattro Pancake Made with 1 scoop Quattro, ½ cup Oats and 7 ounces Egg Whites

Do you have a sweet tooth, and if so, what do you crave? And how often do you have a cheat meal?

I’m the WORST; I have a salty and sweet tooth! I just LOVE Food! (Laughs) I can have discipline and follow a meal plan religiously only when I know that I will be able to reward myself with a cheat meal. (Laughs) And knowing that I’ve worked hard and deserve that cheat meal makes it that much better too! I love baking, so I usually bake a cheesecake or a big dessert for my cheat meals. When it comes to my cravings, I’m also a bad friend, and when my cravings get out of hand, I will bake a dessert for them too! (Laughs) I have a cheat meal once a week, and I’ll have whatever I’m craving, usually pizza is the winner, with some chips and something with chocolate. My rule is that it’s a cheat meal, so it has to be done ‘guilt free’ and done in one sitting!

Do you have any special beauty tips you’d like to share?

I try to purchase mainly organic products; I know they are more expensive, but I sincerely think that they are worth the extra money. I find I break out a lot less when I use all organic products for both beauty products and in the food department too.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the fitness industry?

I enjoy hiking; I don’t get to do it as much as I would like to, but once in a while I’ll take the time to and go out to reconnect with nature. I love to forget about my phone, my work and my busy lifestyle for a little while and just enjoy the beauty that surrounds me.
