Meet Fitness Model and Magnum Athlete, Amanda Voisin. Amanda is a stunning beauty who has found a happy balance between the fitness world and living a ‘normal’ life. Today Amanda celebrates her 23rd birthday, and she shares her secret to finding that happy balance. Happy Birthday, Amanda!

For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?

Growing up, I was raised by a relatively health-conscious family, but it wasn’t until later in life that I really fell in love with fitness. During my first year of University, I found myself going through an extremely difficult time. After a series of traumatic events, I was hit by an extreme anxiety disorder which took over all parts of my life. I felt lost, hopeless and unable to control my own mind and emotions. It was a horrible time to say the least, but it was at that point in my life that led to my passion for fitness.

I began weight lifting as a form of stress release, and it made an incredible difference in both my mind and body. I loved the feeling of the physical strength I achieved through weight lifting, and that physical strength gave me mental strength as well. From that point on, I knew without a doubt I had to share my experience, and passion for fitness and nutrition with others. I’m now working full-time as a personal trainer, and I’m currently training to compete in my first Bikini Competition next spring! Competing is something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time, and I can’t wait to start on that journey as well!

What was the hardest part your transformation or some of the obstacles you faced?

One of the hardest parts of my fitness journey, especially in the beginning, was learning to find a healthy balance. In order to really excel in fitness and allow both my body and mind to progress, it has been crucial for me to maintain a balance between being fit and healthy and still living a ‘normal lifestyle’. I’m so passionate about the fitness industry; it has definitely made me a stronger person than I could have ever imagined. I’ve truly learned to trust in my own instincts and appreciate all parts of my life as a whole, and I really feel that’s the key to this lifestyle.

How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And tell us a little bit about the demos and what you love most about them?

Being so passionate about fitness and nutrition, I’d been using Magnum products for quite a while and was a huge supporter of the company. In the past, I have worked as a Brand Ambassador for Popeye’s Supplements and it was brought to my attention that Magnum Nutraceuticals, Popeye’s’ #1 Brand, was looking for a new Sponsored Athlete in my area. I jumped at the opportunity immediately and sent in my application to Magnum. I absolutely love the passion, integrity and dedication to excellence that Magnum stands for, and I was so excited at the opportunity to be a part of such a positive team! I’m so thankful to be a part of the Magnum Team, and I’m proud to represent them in this industry. I love doing Magnum demos because it allows me to encourage and educate others, helping them make the right supplement choices to achieve their own fitness and health goals. I love being able to represent a company I believe in so strongly; it was a perfect fit!

What is your secret to your incredible leg and glute development?

Three words: volume, frequency and intensity! This really helps stimulate both the fast and slow-twitch muscle fibers, and I feel it’s crucial to train them multiple times per week. Personally, I’m very quad dominant, so my goal right now is to further develop my glutes and hamstrings. For this reason, my leg days are usually glute and hamstring-focused. I train legs at least twice per week, and when I can fit it into my training schedule, I’ll train my glutes three times per week! I also feel it’s so important to train with HEAVY weights while maintain proper form of course.

What’s your favorite exercise for arms and why?

My favourite exercise for arms is definitely the dumbbell curl to press. I love supersetting different exercises when I’m training arms so I can hit as many muscles as possible for maximum burn! I also love doing drop sets at the end of my final set to really stimulate the blood flow in the muscle.

What kind of headphones do you wear when you train? What music do you listen to when you train and tell us a couple songs on your playlist?

I love wearing my Beats by Dre headphones while I train; mine are black with red detailing. Whether I’m doing heavy barbell squats, deadlifts, or even HIIT sprints and plyometrics; they always stay in place without fail. My music tends to vary depending on my mood. Most often in the gym, I’m listening to Drake, The Weeknd, or some new remixes that I’ve discovered. At the moment, my current favourite is the Hex Cougar Remix of Cheap Thrills, by Sia; it’s unreal! (Laughs) You can also catch me listening to anything from Wild For The Night by ASAP Rocky to Lose Yourself by Eminem; it really depends on the day! Let’s just say, I like to keep it interesting!

What does your current diet look like?

My diet varies depending on the day and my current physique goals. I do follow a more flexible, IIFYM approach; this gives me a bit more flexibility in my lifestyle while keeping me on track. I’m cutting at the moment, so my calories are quite a bit lower than they typically are during the week. However, I always have at least one high carb day or ‘refeed’ day per week to keep my metabolism firing on high!

Amanda’s Current ‘Typical’ Diet

  • Meal 1: 2/3 cup Egg Whites, 1/3 cup Oats and 1 ½ tablespoon Peanut Butter
  • Meal 2: 3 ounces Chicken Breast, ½ cup Brown Rice and 2 ounces medium Zucchini
  • Meal 3: 3 ounces Chicken Breast, ½ cup Brown Rice and 2 ounces medium Zucchini
  • Meal 4: 3 ounces Chicken Breast, 1 whole Egg, ½ cup Brown Rice, 3 ounces medium Cucumber, 4 ounces Bell Pepper and 1 medium Apple
  • Meal 5: Post Workout 1 scoop Magnum Quattro Chocolate Love, 1/3 cup Oats and1 ½ tablespoon Peanut Butter

Do you prep your meals and if so how long does it take you?

On Sundays, I always prep my main carb and protein sources for the week. This week for example, I boiled all of my chicken breast and brown rice in bulk, so they would be ready for my upcoming week; it usually only takes me about an hour in total. I find my oats, eggs and vegetables stay fresher if I prepare them each day.

Do you have a favorite cheat meal?

My favourite cheat meal is definitely spaghetti and meatballs or frozen yogurt that is loaded up with all the toppings of course! (Laughs) Those are really the only two meals I find myself craving. Ninety percent of the time, I’m very nutrition-conscious, but I feel it’s important to live a little, and I love to treat myself every once in a while!

What did you enjoy most about working at Victoria’s Secret, and was it hard not to buy everything in the store?

I worked at PINK by Victoria’s Secret a few years ago, and I loved my time there. I have to admit though, being surrounded by beautiful products all day proved to be my biggest weakness. The amount of bras, panties and clothing I purchased over the years was ridiculous! (Laughs) It was a constant temptation!

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the fitness industry?

Outside of the gym, I love to travel. I love exploring new parts of the world and learning about new cultures. I’m actually fluent in conversational French, so France is definitely the next stop on my agenda. I also love spending time at my cottage in the summer, and I love to write. I keep a journal regularly!
