For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?

When I was in high school, I moved out and it lead to living a very unhealthy ‘party’ lifestyle. For a few years, I struggled with kidney stones and then I finally decided to take charge of my health. I ditched the ‘I’m cool and party a lot lifestyle’ for a healthier one. I started by setting small goals, and I worked closely with a personal trainer to achieve them. After watching my best friend compete in her first Bikini Competition, I was completely inspired. I decided to challenge myself and prep for my first show. Now I have been competing for one year and lifting consistently for about 2 years.

What I love most about fitness is how much personal growth it has lead me to make. I’ve become a much happier and healthier person, and I’ve learned to set goals and achieve them. I consistently practice this discipline and apply it to many different areas of my life outside the gym. Currently, I am prepping for BC Provincials which will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre July 9th and 10th 2016, and I’m also working towards my personal training certification.

Tell us about your recent video.

My most recent fitness video was shot with Behind Closed Doors at Club One Fitness in Richmond, BC. I really loved this shoot because they captured my mindset of being in the ‘zone’ when I train. I really get into it when I’m prepping for a competition. (Laughs) This was shoot was done at the end of my off season, so I was a little nervous about not being as ‘shredded’ as I normal would. But I felt so comfortable and working with Bianca made me forget all about that and let confidence shine.

How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And what do you love most about the company?

I became involved with Magnum after my first show in 2015. I love Magnum’s integrity and how well they represent themselves. They constantly have new products with the highest quality of ingredients, and as an athlete fueling my body with the ‘best’ is key. Team Magnum is also the most energetic and outgoing team I have ever had the opportunity to work with, and having their support both locally and around the world is an incredible feeling.

Do you have a favorite pair of shoes to train in and a separate pair for squatting?

I have a few pairs of shoes for the gym, my favorite for cardio or HIIT would be my Under Armour Trainers because they are so light and comfy. When I’m squatting or lifting heavy, I like my Nike Fly Knits or Nike Frees; they have more support which I need if I want to avoid injuries!

What is your secret to your incredible leg and glute development?

This past year I have made a commitment to developing my ‘mind-muscle connection’ when I train. I don’t focus on how much weight I’m lifting, but I focus on the quality of my reps. I make sure to hit perfect form and activate my muscles from various angles. Since I’ve made this my priority, I’ve noticed more muscle growth and development.

What does your current diet look like?

Clean eating is my lifestyle my diet doesn’t differ much from prep other than adding more spices and flavor. I also will have sushi once or twice a week; it’s my favorite! Okay maybe 3-4 times a week! (Laughs) Occasionally in the off season, I will have a piece of white chocolate cheesecake. My macro plan is given to me by my coach, IFBB Bikini Pro, Francesca Lauren.

Montana Jade’s Typical Diet

  • Meal 1: 1 scoop Quattro and Oats
  • Meal 2: 4 ounces Chicken, 1 cup green beans, 1/3 cup white rice and
  • 1 tablespoon Peanut butter
  • Meal 3: 2 Rice Cakes, and Tomato Basil or Caramel Flavoring
  • Meal 4: 4 ounces Steak, 1cup Broccoli and 3 ounces Roasted Yams
  • Meal 5: 1 cup 0% Plain Greek Yogurt and Blueberries
  • Meal 6: 4 ounces Ground Turkey and ½ cup Quinoa

Do you prep your meals and if so how long does it take you?

All of my meals are prepped by my sponsors Mmmealprep. I am so grateful for their support. They have a menu I simply couldn’t steer away from. Whether I’m building or shredding, they always have the best options. And their crème Brule is actually made with Magnum Quattro Protein! A few of my favorites from their menu are the Potato Bomb, Creamy Rose Pasta and Korean Bimimbap.

What’s the one thing you look forward to treating yourself to after a competition?

The one thing I always look forward to after a show is fruit. I love all kinds of fruit, especially bananas and mangos. So sitting back and enjoying a ‘huge’ cold bowl of fruit is always amazing!

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the fitness industry?

I really love going on adventures and spending time outdoors. On the weekends you’ll usually find me on a local hike or at the beach.

Anything else you’d like to share?

A big project I’ve been working on is the launch of the Fitplan App; it’s a Fitness App that gives you the exact training methods of the world’s most influential athletes like Ashely Kaltwasser, Michelle Lewin, Sergi Constance, Jeff Seid and more. Working along-side the athletes that I’m most inspired by is beyond cool and keeps me very motivated. You can check us out at: www.fitplanapp.com.
