For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?
I grew up with very active parents, so being physically active has always been a part of my life. I was always outdoors as a child, playing sports, going for walks with my mom or riding my bike. In school I played competitive basketball, table tennis, recreational softball and hockey, and I ran competitively. In 8th grade, I started asking my Dad for workout ideas and by 9th grade, I started buying fitness magazines. After a while my knees became an issue from running, and I started focusing more on weight lifting. When I was 24, I was approached in the gym by a trainer to do a bodybuilding competition; I’ve been hooked ever since!
What’s the one food you couldn’t live without? And as it gets closer out to a competition, how do you handle cravings?
Oatmeal; it’s my favourite food by far, and it’s also my choice of a cheat meal! (Laughs) Personally, for me, I think of a ‘cheat’ meal as a way to fuel my body with the right nutrition, so I can get the most out of it and have an intense training session the next day. I feel better when I eat a ‘clean’ cheat meal and my body responds better too. However, I do ‘pimp’ out my oatmeal, and it’s not a completely ‘clean’ meal. (Laughs) Usually, I’ll add a scoop of Magnum’s Quattro because it tastes amazing and helps me get in some extra protein. Magnum’s Quattro makes the consistency of the oatmeal perfect. I also add in Stevia, some chocolate chips, raisins, peanut butter, and I break up a protein bar into bite sized pieces and add that in too! Before I have my cheat meal, I take two of Magnum’s Mimic to help shuttle the carbs to my muscles. Mimic gives me an unreal pump, and helps with muscle building and repair rather than having the carbs stored as fat. As far as cravings, I really don’t get them often because I enjoy the food I eat.
My trainer tailors my meal plan to foods I enjoy, so it makes sticking to the plan a lot easier and keeps my cravings at bay. But, when I do get a craving, I think about my end goal, and there’s no food out there that would taste better than bringing my absolute best physique to the stage. I keep my mind focused and I don’t ever think of certain foods as ‘off limits’ because that would make me want it more. I also make sure to stay hydrated during the day and that helps with my hunger levels.
How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And tell us a little bit about the demos and what you love most about them?
Reading this question puts a HUGE smile on my face because I absolutely LOVE MAGNUM! I love the products, I love the unique company culture of Magnum, and I love the Magnum family! I first tried Magnum when I was working at Popeye’s and it was a game changer for me. I started with Magnum’s Quattro and then continued to add more Magnum products to my stack. Trust me, I have tried many different supplement products by many different companies, and in my opinion, there is not one company out there that is in Magnum’s league. Magnum’s products are pharmaceutical grade which means what you read on the label is actually what you get in the product.
I knew I wanted to be sponsored by Magnum, so when Markus Kaulius came to Calgary and did a presentation for the Popeye’s crew on Magnum, I saw a great opportunity to approach him and chat about my passion for his company. I asked him what it would take to become sponsored, I sent him an e-mail, detailing my background and within a week, this girl was sponsored; major goal achieved! Demos are so much fun! I get to spread the Magnum love with people and educate them on how amazing every supplement is. I especially love when people come in while I’m doing a demo after they’ve already purchased a product and they tell me how ecstatic they are about the results they’re getting. It’s very rewarding to be able to represent and promote a company full of integrity and transparency.

What does your current diet look like?
Again, I cannot disclose my meal plan, but I can give you the basics of it. I’m 8 weeks out from a show, so I am limited compared to what my off season would be. My meal plan is composed of clean foods, and I have 6 meals per day. My carbs come from oatmeal, sweet potatoes and rice. Fat sources come from avocado, peanut butter and almonds. And my protein sources are chicken breast, egg whites and Magnum’s Quattro protein powder. With most meals, I have veggies, and I will usually have green beans, peppers, celery or mushrooms.
Do you have any special make up tips or beauty secrets you’d like to share?
I’m not the greatest when it comes to make up, but I discovered Laura Mercier’s translucent finishing powder and it’s amazing; it holds my makeup in place all day! My best beauty secret would be to always make sure to wash your make up off every night. I like to hydrate my skin before going to bed by putting on coconut oil.
What’s something that not many people know about you?
I can’t cook. And I mean I can’t even cook egg whites without them burning. (Laughs) Thank god my boyfriend is good at cooking and enjoys helping me with meal prepping.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of the fitness industry?
That’s a tough one because fitness is my passion, so if I’m not in the gym training, I’m usually reading fitness related books or articles, or I can be found scrolling through social media for tips and motivation. If I’m not doing that, then I’m usually chatting with someone about fitness. (Laughs) However, I just finished a two year program called Energy Asset Management, and I am about to start a career in the Oil and Gas industry. So outside of fitness, that industry is my other passion.
