For those unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the fitness industry?

I have been involved in the fitness industry for about 7 years. I started working out consistently when I was 18 years old, and I was asked to become a fitness trainer at the all ladies gym where I worked out. I worked at the gym for a year and a half. During that time, I gained a great deal of knowledge about the fitness industry and received my personal training certification.

Congratulations on being in this month’s Inside Fitness Magazine. Were you surprised to see your transformation story featured? And share a little bit about your own transformation.

Thank you so much! I was shocked to pick up this month’s Inside Fitness Magazine and see my photo and transformation story in it; it was a very proud moment for me! When I was no longer working in the fitness industry, I went through a rough period of time which led to emotional eating, and I stopped taking care of myself and my body.

After being weighed at my doctor’s office, I realized that I had gained 25 pounds.

I had always been fit and seeing the numbers on the scale devastated me. I knew I needed to do something, so I found a coach online, Tea Cuk. With Tea’s training and meal plans, I was able to drop the weight within a year, and I got in the best shape of my life!

What was the hardest part of your transformation, and what is life like now since your transformation?

The hardest part of my transformation was just getting started. The weight had crept up on me, and I finally realized that I needed to hire a coach to help motivate me and get me on track. Since my transformation, I am truly the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been. And I love inspiring others to transform their lives as well.

I have found my passion with training and competing; it’s a great feeling!

Tell us a little about your job as the Senior Marketing Coordinator at The Sun Calgary and what you love about it. Do you feel your marketing skills help you represent Magnum or vice versa? And are you able to keep on schedule with your meals and supplements while in your daily work environment?

I have worked as Senior Marketing Coordinator at the Calgary Sun, which is a local newspaper in the city, for several years. I love so involved with my community and the charities. I also get to attend a lot of amazing events around the city. My marketing skills and experience for promoting a brand have certainly helped me to represent Magnum. And I am able to pack my food and supplements for the day and bring it all to work.

We have a fridge and microwave at the office, so staying on track is quite easy!

Tell us about Team Tight ‘N’ Curvy and your recent photo shoot.

My trainer created Team Tight ‘N’ Curvy; it’s an inspiring group of women that motivate and support each other. I am so honored to be a part of Team Tight ‘N’ Curvy and to work for Tea as a personal trainer. Recently, we did a fun video shoot at the Memorial Stairs and Gold’s Gym in Calgary to help promote the girls on our team who have upcoming competitions. It was such a fun day and it made waking up at 3:30 a.m. well worth it!

How did you become involved with Magnum Nutraceuticals? And tell us a little bit about the demos and what you love most about them?

I love Magnum products and have been an avid user of their products for quite some time. I first connected with Magnum President, Markus Kaulius on Instagram. I sent in a sponsorship request letter and a few days later, had a phone call with Markus! Becoming a Magnum sponsored athlete has been a dream come true. My favorite part about giving the Magnum demos is connecting with people in the community and educating them on how proper supplementation can improve both their training and results.

Do you have any post workout recovery rituals you’d like to share?

I take Magnum G and Quattro post workout followed by a hot bath with Epsom salts.

IMG_0377 Edit

I also roll out my muscles using a foam roller.

Do you prep your meals and if so how long does it take you?

I prep all of my meals on Sunday for the week; it usually takes me a several hours to do.

IMG_0009 Edit

Prepping my meals ahead of time is the key to my success with my diet.

Alicia’s Typical Diet

  • Meal 1: 1 ½ Cups Egg Whites, 1 Cup Oats, ½ Cup Berries and 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • Meal 2: 1 Cup Greek Yogurt and 1 Quest Bar
  • Meal 3: 4 Ounces Lean Meat, ½ Cup Rice and 2 Cups Vegetables
  • Meal 4: 1 Scoop Protein, 1 Banana and 1 Tablespoon Nut Butter
  • Meal 5: 4 Ounces Lean Meat, 2 Cups Butternut Squash and 2 Cups Green Vegetables
  • Meal 6: 1 Cup Egg Whites, 2 Cups Spinach or Kale

What do you do to ensure you’re eating enough vegetables on a daily basis?

To ensure I am eating enough vegetables, my coach includes the exact amount of vegetables I need to eat per day in my meal plan. I also take Magnum Performance Greens which helps to make up for anything that I may be lacking in my diet.

What’s the one food you couldn’t live without? And how do you handle cravings?

I couldn’t live without pancakes made with oats, egg whites, liquid stevia, cocoa powder and cinnamon with warmed berries on top! To handle cravings, I chew sugar free gum, eat kale chips or drink David’s Tea.

Tell us a little bit about your first time at the Olympia. What was your favorite part and who were you most excited to meet?

My first time at the Olympia was amazing and so exciting! My favorite part was just getting to be a part of it and representing Magnum at our booth; it was a lot of fun! We had a great location, and I got to meet so many people from all around the world. Walking around and getting to see all of the athletes was also exciting. But to be honest, I was most excited to meet everyone on my Magnum team that I look up to and have been following on social media. I was really hoping to catch a glimpse of Paige Hathaway, but no such luck!

When you travel, how do you handle eating out?

When I travel, I always bring my 6 Pack cooler bag which contains all of my prepped meals. IMG_0118 Edit

When eating out, I order healthy alternatives such as a salad with grilled chicken, vegetables and vinaigrette dressing on the side.

Do you have any special beauty tips you’d like to share?

Apply Body Shop Body Butter every night for soft, moisturized skin. And take off your makeup, and wash your face every single night before bed.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the fitness industry?

I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading, hiking, being outdoors, going to hockey and football games and travelling when I can.
