Losing body fat will help you feel better about yourself, improve your looks and your health, and your clothes will fit better too. Ultimately, what you eat will play a crucial role in your ability to reach and sustain your weight loss goals.
Beastly Notes: Eat clean
Before we get started I have to emphasize that you MUST eat clean and have a minimalistic approach when reading food labels. If you can’t pronounce it, then you shouldn’t eat it.
Beastly Tip #1 – Size matters
Watch your portion size. If your ultimate goal is to lose body fat, be sure to be in a caloric deficit. Don’t forget to load your plate with healthy vegetables. Vegetables are an excellent source of fiber; they will help fill you up and assist in nutrient absorption.
Beastly Tip #2 – Protein Powders
Because of all of the fillers and added ingredients, protein powders are notorious for bloating. And for those of you who are lactose intolerant, this can be an even worse scenario. Consider trading in your whey for a plant, rice or egg based protein powder that is palatable. Be sure to read the labels carefully and find a protein powder that is also low in calories.
Beastly Tip #3 – Avoid Alcohol
Avoid alcohol. Alcohol can give you serious belly bloat and should be avoided at all costs. Alcohol is loaded with sugar and contains empty calories.
Beastly Tip #4 – Fruit
Although fruit is good for you it is high in sugar. Never eat fruit by itself, fruit by itself is fructose; pair it with a protein source.
Beastly Tip #5 – Low fat
Low fat is not necessarily healthy; it is usually pumped with sugars and fillers to give it taste. Avoid it.
Beastly Tip #6 – Healthy fats
Don’t fear healthy fats, your body needs essential fatty acids. Fats don’t make you fat. Extra calories do. Avoid unhealthy fats such as saturated and trans fats.
Beastly Tip #7 – Eat protein
Eat your protein. Protein provides satiety and will fill you up. Consuming lean protein also builds muscle and promotes fat loss.
Beastly Tip #8 – Complex carbs
Women tend to shy away from carbs even if your goal is weight loss you still need healthy carbs. Consuming healthy carbs will provide your body with the energy it needs to get through the day without crashing midafternoon. Complex carbohydrates have a lower impact on insulin levels and are less likely to store as fat.
Beastly Tip #9 – Simple carbs
Avoid simple carbohydrates. Sugary carbohydrates are a leading cause of weight gain. The one exception is the post workout window. At this time you need to consume high glycemic carbohydrates preferably in liquid form. After a heavy training session you’re more insulin resistant, and this will be less likely to store as fat.
Beastly Tip #10 – Eat often
Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day. This will keep your energy levels higher throughout the day. It will also keep your metabolism humming, and you will be less likely to store fat.
