This will be a two part series. Foods that nurture the Kidney are yin. Foods and spices that warm the kidney are yang. Today we are going to be focusing on yin foods; next week we’ll take a look at yang foods.
If you are yin deficient you need to slow down. Your diet must support this as well. You’ll want to reduce stimulation and stress in your daily environment and provide your body with foods that are more nurturing in nature to strengthen it.
Yin foods are usually sweet and sour, and saltier in flavor; they promote calming to the kidneys. Below is a short list of yin foods to help get you started.

- Aloe juice or Aloe vera gel
- Barley
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Clams
- Garbanzo beans (hummus)
- Honey dew melon
- Kidney beans
- Millet
- Mung bean sprouts
- Potatoes
- String beans
- Tofu
- Water chestnuts
- Watermelon
- Wheat germ
